Michael Skinner, OSI-CAN Alberta

When human beings experience significant trauma, it’s not uncommon for their lives to unravel.

For 32 years, Mike had the privilege of being a Firefighter/Advanced Care Paramedic and witnessed this unravelling first-hand, many times. However, when he found himself in a position where his life and career were unravelling, none of his experiences prepared him for the journey ahead and how to deal with the problems that would be associated with OSI/PTSI.

Mike’s life has been a myriad of experiences with the highest of highs and the lowest of lows. Today, Mike’s humbled to be a partner, a father, a peer and the Provincial Coordinator of OSI-CAN Alberta, a community-based peer support initiative of the Canadian Mental Health Association.

OSI-CAN is a program that empowers veterans and first responders to be self-determined in finding better mental health and support through resources and programs that promote Recovery, Resiliency and Post Traumatic Growth.
